01 如何辨认状语
所谓状语，是用来修饰动作、状态或整句话的。它通常交代事情发生的时间、条件、原因、让步、目的、结果、方式或范围。
阅读句子时，看到副词、介词短语、非谓语或连接词，可以先把这一小段圈出来，再看它是在修饰名词，还是在说明动作或整件事发生的时间、条件、原因、方式等。
如果一部分内容修饰名词，它是定语；如果它说明动作怎样发生，或者整句话在什么情况下成立，它就是状语。真题中的状语可以短到一个副词，也可以长成一个完整从句。
副词作状语
识别状语：副词可以修饰动词、形容词或整句话。先看它具体修饰哪个词、哪个动作或整层句意，再结合语境判断它表达的是时间、频率、程度，还是前后句之间的逻辑。

解析：therefore 承接前文的原因，引出本句的结果；中文放在句首：“因此，他的分析……”。

介词短语作状语
识别状语：介词后接名词、代词或 doing，组成介词短语。关键仍是看它修饰什么：修饰名词时是定语；修饰动作或整句话，回答“什么时候、在哪里、怎样做、从哪方面看”等问题时，是状语。

识别状语：to do、doing、done 都可能作状语。看到非谓语，先看它在句中承担什么作用：只有当它在说明另一个动作的目的、原因、时间、结果或伴随等关系时，才把它看作状语。
不要只看形式：to do、doing 也可以整体作主语。例如，2012 Q48 的 To filter out... 是不定式作主语；2016 Q50 的 knowing that... and knowing to... 是两个并列的 doing 结构共同作主语。

独立主格作状语
识别状语：独立主格常见的形式是“with + 名词 + doing / done”等，名词后面的 doing / done 继续说明这个名词正在做什么或发生了什么。整个结构给主句补充时间、原因、背景或伴随状态。
与普通介词短语区分：with sympathy 只有“介词 + 名词”，是方式状语；with the Church's teachings... being eclipsed 则是“with + 名词 + doing”，其中 being eclipsed 继续说明 teachings and ways of thinking 正在发生什么，因此是独立主格。

02 如何翻译状语
翻译状语，先判断它与相关动作或主句构成什么关系：是时间、条件、让步、原因、目的、结果，还是方式、范围等。
英文中的状语位置比较灵活，关联词有时只出现一个；中文往往先交代时间、条件、原因等背景，再说主要动作，关联词也常常成对出现。
状语的翻译，简单来说，就是先看关系，再判断是否调整语序，必要时补关联词。
01时间状语：先交代时间，再说动作
英文表达习惯：时间状语的位置比较灵活，可以放在句首、句中或句尾。
中文表达习惯：时间状语通常放在相关动作之前，先说“什么时候”，再说“发生了什么”。
